Advance is Life's condition 1
The Grave but a Relay
Supposed to be a terminus
That makes it hated so-

The Tunnel is not lighted 5
Existence with a wall
Is better we consider
Than not exist at all-
(F.1736/J.1652 )
[1] life:: life insurance. advance:: the insurance premium.
[2] Grave but a Relay:: the payment after the insurer's death.
[3] terminus:: the final point of life, death.
[5] Tunnel is not lighted:: the insurers themselves see no.
[6] a wall:: a barrier for the insurers to get the benefit.
[8] not exist:: better think that the insurance doesn't exist.

All life insurance is paid for more or less in advance, and if not paid wholly in advance, the right of continuance beyond the term already paid for, at least, is forfeited by a failure to make any further payment at its stipulated time. Hence a policy has a value to the policy-holder as a deposit, and is a present liability against the company to the extent of the difference of the amount of advance payment and the sum which the company has already earned by carrying the risk. In other words, the company is indebted to the policy-holder for principal and interest of unearned premium, or in other still, for the sum he has contributed towards insuring himself, for in case of death, the company does not return the unearned premium, in addition to the sum insured.
