[1] Lamps:: a source of spiritual or intellectual light.
[2] Themselves go out:: they left their creations alone after done.
[5] Suns:: a cluster of gas-burners for lighting and ventilating public buildings, called sun-burner, to generate a sun-like illumination.
[6] Lens:: each gas-burner equipped with crystal or mirror to reflect or disseminate light. Each, Lens:: each differenct level of reader a different focus.
[7] Disseminating:: spreading, scattering.
[8] Circumference:: that which surrounds, environment (OED 4).

The large sun-burner of cluster is lighted by a small jet of gas being always burning. Each jet of gas is sufficiently near to the next, that if one is lighted, it makes a train throughout the burner. ─ The Civil Engineer and Architect's Journal, Volume 15 (1852)
