I had the Glory that will do — The Hunchback of Notre-Dame

I had the Glory-that will do-1
An Honor, Thought can turn her to
When lesser Fames invite-
With one long "Nay"-
Bliss' early shape
Deforming-Dwindling-Gulfing up-
Time's possibility.
(F.350/J.349)
[1] I:: Esmeralda, the protagonist in the Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo.
[2] lesser Fames invite:: Claude Frollo, the Archdeacon of Notre Dame, who tried to make Esmeralda his lover.
[4] Nay:: Esmeralda refused Claude Frollo and was hanged.
[5, 6] Bliss, Deforming:: Quasimodo, the hunchback bell-ringer of Notre Dame, who loved Esmeralda.
[7] Time's possibility:: Quasimodo wasn't so deformed after all.

On reaching that point he turned towards her. "Once more," said he, "wilt thou be mine?"
She replied firmly, "No." ─ The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1849)
