A long long Sleep-A famous-Sleep — Sleeping Beauty

A long-long Sleep-A famous-Sleep-1
That makes no show for Morn-
By Stretch of Limb-or stir of Lid-
An independent One-

Was ever idleness like This? 5
Upon a Bank of Stone
To bask the Centuries away-
Nor once look up-for Noon?
(F.463/J.654)
[1] Sleep:: Sleeping Beauty (1697) by Charles Perrault.
[4] independent:: the princess and everyone in the palace were sleeping.
[6] Bank of Stone:: on a seat of precious stone.
[7] Centuries:: the charm was released after a hundred years.
[8] Nor once, Noon:: without knowing noon.

At the expiration of a hundred years, the Prince arrived. He approached the castle by a long avenue; he crossed a large court-yard paved with marble; he ascended the staircase, entered the guard-room, where the guards were snoring away most lustily; he passed through several rows of ladies and gentlemen, some sitting, some standing, but all asleep. At length he came to an apartment gilded all over with gold, and saw, on a magnificent bed, the curtains of which were opened all round, a Princess more beautiful than anything ho had ever beheld. ─ The Dublin University Magazine (1847)
