The largest Fire ever known — Incineration

A large fire that burns every day without concern and report, is the incineration of the waste. This riddle needs little comments, but why Dickinson would select this subject is more interesting. Her poetry is fire, full of passion, but none noticed and cared when she was alive. We can see some words are not needed for the riddle, like Occidental and Afternoon, but for her other intention.

The largest Fire ever known 1
Occurs each Afternoon-
Discovered is without surprise
Proceeds without concern-

Consumes and no report to men 5
An Occidental Town,
Rebuilt another morning
To be burned down again.
(F.974/J.1114)
[1] Fire:: the fire used to burn garbage.
[2-4] each Afternoon, without concern:: garbage burning, a regular and common thing.
[5] Consumes:: a hint on garbage, waste after consumption.

Another View

[1] Fire:: passion, in writing poems.

[3] Discovered, without surprise:: those poems are riddled.
[4] without concern:: no one cared about her poems.
[5] no report to men:: without publishing.
[6] Occidental:: towards the sun sets, a hint on dying, lack of vitality. An Occidental Town:: a town lack of vigor.
